Quick Fix Guide 02 ยท Printer offline
The printer says offline and will not print.
This one is maddeningly common. Offline usually means the computer can see the printer name, but cannot talk to it.
What is probably happening
The printer is asleep, disconnected from Wi-Fi, paused on the computer, or waiting on an old print job.
What to try first.
- Turn the printer off, count to 10, then turn it back on.
- Wait two minutes. Printers take their sweet time coming back to the network.
- Make sure the printer and computer are using the same Wi-Fi name.
- Open the print queue and cancel anything stuck before trying one fresh test page.
What Emily writes back
Hi Mary,
Offline usually means the computer knows the printer exists, but the two are not talking cleanly right now. That is annoying, but it is usually fixable without buying anything.
Try this in order:
- Turn the printer off, count to ten, then turn it back on.
- Wait two full minutes before trying to print.
- Cancel anything stuck in the print queue, then send one fresh test page.
If it still says offline, send me the printer brand and the exact words on the screen and I will narrow it down.

What to send Lumaneta.
Short and plain is fine. Do not send passwords, one-time codes, card numbers, Social Security numbers, or private banking details.
- Printer brand and model, if visible.
- The exact words on the screen.
- Whether it is connected by Wi-Fi or a cable.
