How do I connect my printer to new Wi-Fi?

When the Wi-Fi name or password changes, the printer often keeps looking for the old network. You usually need to run Wi-Fi setup again on the printer or in the printer brand's app.

The short answer

Find Wireless Setup or Network Settings on the printer, choose your current Wi-Fi name, enter the new password, then add the printer again on your computer if needed.

Try these first

1Write down the exact Wi-Fi name and password before starting.
2Use the main home network, not a guest network.
3Keep the printer close to the router during setup if possible.

One safety note

Before you change settings

1Write down the exact Wi-Fi name and password before starting.
2Use the main home network, not a guest network.
3Keep the printer close to the router during setup if possible.

What to know first

What this usually means

  • The printer is still saved to the old router.
  • The new Wi-Fi name is similar but not identical.
  • The printer only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
  • The password was typed with one wrong character.

Do not do this yet

  • Do not factory reset the printer unless you have the Wi-Fi password and setup instructions.
  • Do not call a random printer support number from search results.
  • Do not connect to guest Wi-Fi if the computer is on the main Wi-Fi.
