Wi-Fi and internet
Wi-Fi says connected but there is no internet. What do I do?
Connected to Wi-Fi means your device can talk to the router. It does not always mean the router can reach the internet.
The short answer
Check whether other devices work, turn Wi-Fi off and on, restart the device, then restart the router if more than one device has the same problem.

Steps for Windows

- 2Restart the computer.
- 3Open Settings, Network & internet, and run the network troubleshooter if available.
- 4If other devices are also offline, restart the router.
One safety note
Do not reset the router with the tiny reset button unless you know how to set it up again.
Before you change settings
What to know first
What this usually means
- The router is working but the internet service is down.
- The device joined a guest or weak network.
- A VPN or security app is interfering.
- The router needs a restart.
Do not do this yet
- Do not reset the router with the tiny reset button unless you know how to set it up again.
- Do not change Wi-Fi passwords during a temporary outage.
- Do not assume the device is broken until another device is checked.
